Amblyopia is a condition where the optic nerve(s) do(es) not develop completely, which means vision is blurry even with glasses on.
If you were prescribed glasses, wear them until at least 14 years of age to make sure that your optic nerves develop completely.
Amblyopia can also be caused by cross-eye, congenital cataracts (born with cataracts) or other diseases that block the light from entering the eye and reaching the retina (back of the eye that captures light).
So it is very important to have children's eyes examined as young as possible to find out if there are any conditions that need to be resolved before leading to amblyopia.
Escondido Eyecare is open today, February 17, 2020.
1. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays.
2. Wear blue-filtering glasses to protect your eyes from digital devices (phone, tablet, computer, TV and fluorescent lights, for example) harmful blue light.
3. Take vitamins containing lutein, zeaxanthin and mezo-zeaxanthin to slow down (and possibly reverse mild cases).
4. If you smoke, quit.
5. Eat green leafy vegetables.
Cheap sunglasses do not block 100% of harmful UV rays and are therefore not recommended. More info in this Sunglasses Article
